What is WPS AI Summarizer?
WPS AI Summarizer, published as "AI Summarizer: Shorten Text Into Key Points", is a browser tool at wps.com that shortens articles, reports and notes into key points. You paste text or upload a document, pick how long the summary should be, and pick the reading age it should be written for. The page says the condensed version comes back in seconds. There's no signup step and no payment step in the standalone flow, so you get from a long document to a readable summary without an account.
The age group control is the unusual part. Most summarizers give you a length slider and stop there. This one also changes vocabulary, sentence complexity and level of detail, so a textbook chapter can come back as a children's explanation or keep its industry terms for a professional reader. Against that, the page discloses very little about the machinery. WPS's AI supplementary terms say AI features are delivered through Microsoft Azure OpenAI APIs and machine learning models, and its FAQ says partner processing powers those features and that partners may not train on user data. That documentation covers WPS AI in general, though, and doesn't confirm what this particular page runs on. No model name, version or context window is published.
The page exists because of what sits around it. The standalone summarizer page is presented as free and needs no registration, so the pricing that matters is what WPS AI costs inside the suite, and that is region sensitive. Its US buy page, retrieved in August 2026, listed three tiers. It put WPS Standard at $0 with no credit card required, covering basic PDF features, a free PDF reader, limited template downloads, 1 GB of cloud space, 47 file formats and 46 languages. A Sharing Plan came in at $2.49 per user per month billed $29.99 a year per user, adding multi-user sharing, separate private accounts and storage, 20 GB of cloud per user, integrated AI and PDF conversion. WPS Pro+ sat at $5.83 a month billed $69.99 a year, where AI tools are included with daily usage limits and AI pauses until the next day once you hit them. The company also states that WPS AI is available inside free WPS Standard, with the higher limits and advanced features reserved for Pro+. Third-party listings still carry WPS Pro at $2.99 a month billed $35.99 a year and WPS AI at $9.99 a month billed $119.88 a year, and we could not confirm either on the current buy page. Underneath the tiers sit credits. WPS's FAQ says AI Credits are consumed by AI functions, are linked to an account, and that access ends when the balance reaches zero. A 7-day WPS Pro trial supplies 4,000 credits, and the subscription's full credit allocation is issued after billing succeeds. Credits are cleared at the end of the charge cycle and do not roll over. You can buy extra credit packs, but WPS publishes neither the pack prices nor the credit cost of a single summarization. On refunds, the FAQ says WPS Pro or WPS AI refunds may be partial or full depending on entitlement days and credits used, with used privileges and credits revoked, and we found no universal fixed refund window. What the ratings actually cover. WPS Office's Android listing showed 4.4 out of 5 from about 5.97 million reviews in August 2026, and an independent store capture put Android installs above 500 million with an update on August 25, 2026. That is evidence of very broad adoption of the Office suite. It is not a rating of AI Summarizer, and we found no G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Product Hunt or standalone review aggregate for the summarizer itself. Anyone presenting the Play Store score as this tool's score is misreading it.
The ads and paid-basics backlash, June 2026. A June 2026 report described a user backlash alleging system lag, lost documents, pop-up ads, cloud backup files, and functions that used to be basic becoming paid. It linked the controversy to a 5.07 percent fall in Kingsoft's share price. That reporting concerns WPS Office, not verified behaviour of the standalone summarizer page, and the retrieved source did not establish the company's response. It is still the clearest signal of what the wider product experience has been criticised for.
Permissions and privacy, May 2026. A May 2026 review said the Android app requested storage, camera, microphone and contacts permissions. The reviewer denied microphone and contacts, said the app still worked fine, and said they would not upload sensitive documents to the cloud or trust the app with bank statements or medical records. This concerns the Windows desktop suite and is not evidence that the browser summarizer was breached, but it belongs in any assessment of the vendor's security record.

Kingsoft reported 651 million global monthly active WPS Office devices and 41.79 million accumulated paying subscribers as of June 2025, and its March 2026 results showed 672 million monthly active devices and 48.99 million accumulated paying subscribers with domestic and overseas figures combined. Office software revenue grew 16 percent in 2025 to RMB 5.929 billion. All of these are company-reported figures for WPS Office, and none of them measure AI Summarizer.
