Key takeaways

  • Picsart began in 2011 as a mobile photo editor with a creator community and now sells itself as "The AI Creative Platform": photo and video editing, graphic design, templates, stock media and an AI Playground that fronts other companies' image, video and audio models. Reviewers rate it well for breadth and ease of use. One 2026 summary put G2 at 4.5/5 from 779 reviews while Trustpilot sat around 3.0/5 from roughly 245 reviews, and those two numbers tell the story: the product scores well, the billing does not.
  • The audience has widened from casual mobile editors to marketers, ecommerce teams and brands. The paid tiers now carry brand kits, batch editing, Getty video clips, ad variations and localization, ad-performance tracking and team seats. Hobbyists still make up most of the store base, with 1B+ Google Play downloads as of August 2026, but the roadmap is pointed at business content work.
  • Pricing as of August 2026: a free tier, Pro at $15 per month or $10.50 per month billed yearly, and Ultra at $47 per month or $37.50 per month billed yearly, per seat. Generative tools draw on monthly credits that expire at the end of each cycle. The $13 Plus plan that older listings show was not on the pricing page.
  • Web traffic is large and rising by third-party estimates: about 17.3 million visits in June 2026, up from about 14.8 million in November 2025. A separate profile put May 2026 at roughly 16.8 million, so treat the exact figure as a range. India and the United States together supply about 42 percent of visits, and most arrive through organic search.
  • The biggest caveat is billing. Trial confusion, unexpected annual charges, separate AI-credit consumption, refund difficulty and slow support are the most persistent negative theme in review summaries. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription, mobile refunds go through Apple or Google rather than Picsart, and users report features moving behind the paywall after app updates.

What is Picsart?

Picsart is a browser and mobile creative suite run by PicsArt, Inc. from Miami. The homepage calls it "The AI Creative Platform" as of August 2026. In one account you get a layered photo editor, a video editor, a design canvas with templates, stickers and fonts, a stock library that includes Getty video clips, and a set of AI tools for removing, replacing, expanding and generating parts of an image. Free use covers a selection of editing tools, templates and AI features. Subscriptions unlock the rest and add a monthly credit balance for generative work.

What sets it apart from a plain photo editor is the AI Playground. It's a single interface for image, video and audio generation that lets you pick a model, write a prompt, add reference images and see the credit cost before you commit. The pricing page names Flex.2 Klein for unlimited image generation on Pro and Ultra, and lists Kling 3.0, Nano Banana, Veo 3 and Seedance 2.5 among the 140+ models available on Ultra. Picsart doesn't appear to be selling a model of its own. It's selling one workflow and one bill across many providers, so quality, availability and moderation shift as those providers change.

Around the core editor sit the business features: 3+ brand kits on Pro and 10+ on Ultra, batch editing of up to 50 or 100 images, ad variations and localization, ad-performance tracking, and per-seat team billing with admin controls on Ultra. The company was founded in Armenia in 2011, raised a $130 million Series C led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 in August 2021 at a valuation above $1 billion, and remains private.

How it works

  1. Open the editor on web or mobile

Go to picsart.com or install the iOS or Android app. You can try free tools without paying, but you need an account to save work, keep cloud projects and use some exports. The company also describes a Windows version.

  2. Pick a starting point

Start a blank project, open the photo or video editor, choose a template, or go straight to an AI tool or an AI Playground mode. Upload your own media or pull from Picsart stock, templates, stickers and fonts. A license filter lets you separate personal-use content from commercial-use content while browsing.

  3. Edit or prompt

For editing, apply tools such as Remove Objects, AI Replace, Backgrounds, Expand Canvas, Enhance, text, collage and batch editing. For generation, type a prompt in AI Playground, optionally attach reference images, and choose a model. The Playground has three modes: Image, Video and Audio.

  4. Check the credit cost, generate, export

Every generative image, video or audio action shows its credit cost before it runs. The result lands on a project board where you can edit it again, download it or share it to social. Export options depend on the tool, the asset license and your plan.

Features

Photo Editor

The original product and still the centre of the suite. It supports layered and quick edits with effects, adjustments, filters, retouching, drawing and text. The AI Photo Editor layer adds background generation, avatar creation and assisted edits aimed at social posts, packaging and portraits.

Remove Objects and AI Replace

Remove Objects takes people, text or clutter out of a photo. AI Replace swaps an object or detail for something you describe in a prompt. Both live inside the editor rather than in a separate generation tool, so you can fix a product shot and keep working on the same canvas.

AI Expand and Expand Canvas

Extends an image beyond its original crop and generates the missing area. Useful when a portrait needs to become a landscape banner or a tight product shot needs room for text.

Background Remover and Video Background Remover

Isolates a subject in a still image or in video. The pricing page lists advanced background and object removal as a Pro feature. Ecommerce listings, profile pictures and social cutouts are the obvious jobs.

AI Playground

A unified generation interface for image, video and audio with model selection, prompts, reference images, visible credit costs, boards and sharing. Pro and Ultra include unlimited image generations with Flex.2 Klein. Ultra opens up 140+ video, image and audio models including Kling 3.0, Nano Banana, Veo 3 and Seedance 2.5, plus parallel video generations and early access to new models.

Batch editing

Apply the same edit across a set of images in one pass. Pro handles up to 50 images per batch and Ultra up to 100, as captured in August 2026.

Brand kits, stock and business tooling

Pro includes 3+ brand kits, millions of stock photos and Getty video clips, premium templates and 100 GB of cloud storage. Ultra raises that to 10+ brand kits, up to 6.5 million Getty stock videos, 300 GB of storage per seat, ad variations and localization, ad-performance tracking and team seats with centralized billing and admin controls.

What people use it for

  • Social posts, stories, thumbnails and short-form video assets.
  • Ecommerce product photos with backgrounds removed or replaced.
  • Ads, flyers, campaign visuals, logos and branded material.
  • Concept images, product scenes, avatars and creative variations from a prompt.
  • Removing unwanted people, objects or text from photographs.
  • Collages, profile pictures, invitations and personal edits.
  • Batch-processing image sets for higher-volume content work.

Picsart isn't a replacement for a specialist desktop compositor or a high-end video finishing suite. Its strength is fast, template-led and AI-assisted creation rather than frame-accurate professional work.

Prices captured from the Picsart pricing page on August 31, 2026, rendered through search results rather than a live checkout, so confirm before you buy. Generative tools run on virtual AI credits, and the tool shows the credit cost before each generation. Pro and Ultra both include a fixed monthly credit allowance, but the exact numbers were not readable on the page, and the free tier's credit quota, watermark rules and storage were not visible either. Monthly subscription credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over. The exception is Ultra add-on credits, which the page says never expire. "Unlimited" on Pro and Ultra applies to image generation with Flex.2 Klein specifically, not to the 140+ other models, which draw on credits. The pricing page says most plans include a free trial with eligibility depending on the account; older listings promise seven days and "cancel anytime", but an unconditional seven-day trial could not be confirmed. Cancelling is manual. Deleting the app or your account does not end the subscription, paid access continues until the term ends, and Picsart recommends cancelling 24 to 48 hours before renewal. Refunds for App Store and Google Play subscriptions go through Apple or Google, website subscriptions go to Picsart support, and approval is not guaranteed; older archived terms said cancellation generally receives no refund or credit. No price change or tier renaming in the last 12 months was documented, but the $13 Plus plan in third-party listings did not appear on the current page.

Traffic & reach

Third-party estimates from a June 2026 check, a proxy for adoption rather than an official number. The June figure of about 17.3 million visits was not independently confirmed, and a similar profile reported roughly 16.8 million visits for May 2026, so read the exact count as a range. The shape says more than the size. Most visits arrive through organic search, with direct traffic second, which fits a brand people find while looking for a specific edit such as a background removal. India is the largest source country, ahead of the United States. The company's own scale claims are much larger and older: 150 million monthly users cited in company descriptions, against roughly 60 million monthly active users reported independently in 2015, and no current figure was verified.

What to know before you commit

  • What people rate it for. Review aggregators describe Picsart as easy to learn, broad in capability, and good enough for professional-looking social and marketing output without training. The recurring positives are the sheer range of editing tools, templates, stickers and stock media, plus background removal, object erasing and one-tap enhancement in one app. A 2026 summary put G2 at 4.5/5 from 779 reviews. Google Play showed 4.3/5 from about 12.2 million reviews in August 2026; an App Store listing showed 4.6/5 from 252,000 ratings while third-party iOS tracking reported 4.66/5 from 4.8 million ratings. Those counts differ by storefront, country and method, so no single global score exists.

  • The billing complaints are the pattern to read first. Billing and cancellation are the most persistent negative theme in review summaries: confusion about free trials, annual charges, separate AI-credit consumption, refund difficulty and slow or unavailable support. Trustpilot's April 2026 summary lists "concerns regarding subscription practices" alongside its praise, and the platform's overall score there was around 3.0/5. These are reviewer allegations, not adjudicated findings, but they're consistent enough that you should read the cancellation and refund pages before subscribing.

  • Users say app updates have moved features behind the paywall. After updates, users report paywall expansion, features going missing or newly locked, crashes, sign-in failures, white screens and interrupted edits. A July 2026 third-party analysis of version 29.9.1 counted 66 post-update reviews averaging 2.52 stars against 4.17 before, a small sample but a sharp drop. One long-time user quoted in that analysis complained that frames they had paid for were moved behind a weekly subscription.

  • Two incidents worth knowing about. In August 2026 the OSV and GitHub Advisory Database recorded malicious releases of the npm packages @picsart/gen-ai and @picsart/ai-sdk during the Shai-Hulud supply-chain worm, with what was described as a credential-stealing payload. That concerns developer packages. A compromise of consumer accounts or the website was not confirmed. Earlier, in March 2020, PetaPixel reported that a photographer's work had been copied and reused more than 1,500 times through Picsart's community, which raised questions about moderation and appropriation.

  • Commercial rights come with a written disclaimer. Picsart says images generated through its AI tools are made available for commercial purposes, but it does not guarantee copyright ownership or freedom from third-party claims, and its own guidance warns that generated images may lack copyright protection. Stock content is licensed asset by asset. A subscription doesn't make every template, sticker or photo commercial-use, so use the license filter. A current statement on whether uploads train Picsart's or its providers' models was not found.

  • The growth numbers are the company's own. Picsart reported more than $100 million in annual revenue run-rate and a valuation above $1 billion in August 2021, and says it has raised $195 million in total. A third-party profile puts revenue at $165 million and GetLatka puts total funding at $175 million; neither reconciles with the company's figures and none of it is independently verified.

Hovhannes Avoyan is CEO and co-founder. He founded Picsart in 2011 with Artavazd Mehrabyan, who served as CTO, and Mikayel Vardanyan, whose role moved from CTO to CPO and COO. The three had worked together since 2005. The company says the original motivation was to make creative tools accessible, including for Avoyan's daughter. A complete current executive roster was not confirmed.
Funding
Sequoia Capital led a $10 million Series A in February 2015, and a reported $15 million round including Sequoia followed in April 2015 at a valuation Fortune put near $250 million. PitchBook lists further rounds between 2016 and 2019 without public amounts. The $130 million Series C in August 2021, led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 with G Squared, Tribe Capital, Sequoia, DCM, Graph Ventures and Siguler Guff, valued the company above $1 billion. Picsart puts total funding at $195 million; GetLatka reports $175 million. Scale
Self-reported: more than $100 million annual revenue run-rate as of August 2021, and 150 million monthly users cited in company descriptions. A third-party profile lists about 631 employees and $165 million in annual revenue; other sources give materially different headcounts, so treat both as low-confidence. Headquarters is listed as 1010 S Federal Hwy, Onyx Tower, Suite 1103, Miami, Florida.
